Welcome to Bruce, our new Metcalf intern!

We are thrilled to introduce Bruce Gibbons Fell, Aluna Theatre’s Metcalf Foundation Performing Arts Program Intern.
This man has quickly become a positive force in Toronto’s theatre community in his time here, and we are lucky to have him working behind the scenes at Aluna, as well as preparing new creative work in two languages. As a core artist in our Interpretation Lab, Bruce has been central to Aluna’s efforts to create a kind of bridge-building / translingual approach to theatre making. What does that mean? Stay tuned while we figure it out!
Bruce is an award-winning playwright and translator from Chile, and has been living in Toronto since 2011. His plays and translations have been showcased in Canada, Chile, Argentina, Cuba, the USA, the UK, and is founding member of Interdram, Chile’s first play-development association. Bruce is artistic director of Cocodrilo Triste, a theatre collective focusing on queer new interpretations of history, infused with pop culture and a Latin American lens. His collective is currently in residence at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre (with his play The Communist Manifesto for Children).
The Metcalf Foundation is funding a full-time one-year internship, where Bruce will train in diverse areas, such as artistic direction, production and new approaches to design. During our 2017/2018 season, he will also be our in-house dramaturg.
We are currently working with Bruce on preparing the new version of CAMINOS, our biennial festival of new works-in-progress from local Pan-American, Indigenous, and Latinx artists. These artists will be pushing the boundaries of theatre, dance, performance art, music, visual arts, installation and film. We can’t wait to share all of this with you.
