$100,000 OTF Grant Contributes to
the longevity and sustainability of Aluna Theatre
Toronto, ON – On Thursday, MPP Marit Stiles formally congratulated the Aluna Theatre on the work that’s been done as a result of receiving a $100,000 Resilient Communities Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2022. The grant, awarded last year, has supported Aluna Theatre in the creation of a strategic plan, aimed at research and implementation of effective communication, outreach, and development plan that has been vital to long term stability and the ongoing fulfilling our mission and mandate.
“Aluna Theatre provides a stage to culturally diverse performances, Latin-Canadian and women artists especially,” said Marit Stiles, MPP for Davenport. “The pandemic has hit Ontario’s cultural sector and our artists particularly hard. I am thrilled that this funding for Aluna will help them continue to entertain, inspire, and change the way people see the world through the power of theatre.”
The OTF grant helped Aluna Theatre focus on growing its team and digital infrastructure in relation to marketing and outreach, as well as the development and execution of a strategic plan over a multi-year cycle. Through this grant, OTF has contributed to the longevity and sustainability of the company.
«The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation has been felt immensely at Aluna Theatre, with a ripple effect that has continued to benefit our artists, arts workers, audiences, neighbourhoods and community,” said Beatriz Pizano Artistic Director of Aluna Theatre. “This grant has allowed Aluna Theatre to return fully and show up for our community of artists and audiences during our 2022 RUTAS Festival with artistic excellence accompanied by meaningful outreach activities, including CACAO presented in North York at Mel Lastman Square, and our co production of Rubble at Theatre Passe Muraille in February 2023. Our new development plan, based on connections and lessons that arose over the past few years, is currently in process, and will incorporate foundation, sponsorship, and donation strategies, in line with our full organizational strategic planning, which we lead to long term stability for Aluna and the community it supports.”
Aluna Theatre embraces the myriad of voices, cultures, and stories of our population, which are transforming the landscape of Canadian theatre. Our work reaches out to diverse audiences in Canada and abroad. We build liaisons that promote art as a way to empower, and a way to share with each other and the world the idea of living in harmony.
