About the artist
CHRISTINE QUINTANA – PLAYWRIGHT – is an actor, playwright, and co-Artistic Producer of Delinquent Theatre. Christine received the 2017 Siminovitch Protege Prize for Playwriting from Marcus Youssef, and was the Urjo Kareda Emerging Artist Resident at Tarragon Theatre. She is the 2018 Playwright in Residence at Tarragon Theatre. Creation/performing highlights include Never The Last (co-created with Molly MacKinnon), produced by Delinquent Theatre, recipient of 5 Jessie Richardson Theatre Award nominations including Outstanding Production and Outstanding New Script; Selfie (commissioned by Théâtre la Seizième in French, and Young People’s Theatre in English, winner of the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding TYA Play, and the Sydney Risk Prize for Outstanding Script by an Emerging Playwright); writing, producing and performing in Stationary: A Recession-Era Musical (winner of the Jessie Richardson Theatre Award for Outstanding Musical, Small Theatre). Christine is a proud member of the Canadian Latinx Theatre Artist Coalition. She holds a BFA in Acting from the University of British Columbia.
CHELSEA HABERLIN – DIRECTOR – is Artistic Director of Neworld Theatre and Co-Artistic Producer of ITSAZOO Productions. As a director she has worked with: ITSAZOO Productions, Neworld Theatre, Arts Club Theatre, Firehall Arts Centre, Theatre SKAM, Pacific Theatre, Delinquent Theatre, and many more. Chelsea is forever searching for new ways to surprise and engage an audience and is particularly passionate about meaningful collaboration, immersive environments, community engagement and reconciliation. Chelsea has an MFA in directing from UBC and a BFA from UVic. She is the recipient of the Sydney J Risk award in directing, the Ray Michal award for outstanding body of work by an emerging director and a two-time winner and five-time Jessie Richardson Award nominee for Outstanding Direction.
DANIELA ATIENCIA – ASSISTANT DIRECTOR – is a Latinx-Canadian theatre artist born and raised in Colombia. She graduated with Honours and received a BFA in Theatre Performance from SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts. She returned to Colombia to work as a community radio host, producing audio content for marginalized areas of the Colombian conflict. Desiring further growth, she moved to the UK where she graduated with Distinction and acquired her MFA in Theatre Directing from The University of Essex’s East 15 Acting School. During her time there, she co-founded her own theatre company, Fingers Crossed, and produced her first professional devised piece, Central (Story) Line which received rave reviews at the Camden Fringe Festival (2018). Daniela is a bilingual director, dramaturg, deviser who vigorously seeks international collaborations with interdisciplinary artists. Her work has been seen in Colombia, Lithuania, Canada, England and Denmark. She is currently based in Vancouver freelancing with several theatre companies including Rumble, Touchstone Theatre, Neworld Theatre and Electric Company.
PAULA ZELAYA-CERVANTES – TRANSLATOR – Mexican playwright, director, and translator, Paula graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada, with a double major in Theatre and Honours English Literature (2014) and thanks to the support of the prestigious International Leader of Tomorrow Award scholarship, granted to only 13 students worldwide each year. Paula wrote and directed The Orbweaver/El Hilador (Cento Cultural Teatro 2, Mexico City, 2018) (Centro Cultural Helénico, Mexico City, 2018) (Vancouver Fringe Festival International Mainstage Selection, 2016), which was awarded an EFITEATRO, Mexico´s Institute of Fine Arts most prestigious grant for theatre. Paula recently directed and translated Sam Steiner’s Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons (Teatro la Capilla, 2019) and will be translating and directing Dennis Kelly’s Girls & Boys in 2020. With Diego del Río, she is currently under commission at Mexico’s National Theatre Company.
SINDY ANGEL – ADRIANA – is an actor and Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner. She was born and raised in Cali, Colombia, where she co-founded a theatre company performing shows and workshops with/for communities facing complex barriers and systemic discrimination in South America. Since moving to Vancouver, in 2006, she has worked as an actor/collaborator with companies like Neworld Theatre, Urban Ink and Universal Limited. Her lived experience and community work continue to inspire her to use theatre as a tool for social change. Sindy recently completed a Residency Program at the Centre of Theatre of the Oppressed in Brazil.
MEAGHAN CHENOSKY – SARAH – is an award-winning actress and graduate of the University of British Columbia’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting Program. Selected credits include: Olga in Onegin (Arts Club), Phyllis in Dead Peoples Things (Zee Zee Theatre) Sandy in Satellites (Solo Collective), Dyanne in Million Dollar Quartet (Chemainus/Western Canada Theatre). Meaghan was honoured with a Jessie Richardson Award for her performance as Dottie in Killer Joe (ITSAZOO). Meaghan can next be seen in Vancouver City Opera’s Berlin Project.
SUSAN MIYAGISHIMA – STAGE MANAGER – is an accomplished stage manager, props designer, and production & event coordinator. In addition to having worked locally with many of Vancouver’s esteemed theatre companies, she has also toured extensively across Canada and abroad into the US and Asia. Some recent credits include Yoga Play (Gateway Theatre), Marine Life (Ruby Slippers) Empire of the Son (VACT), Cinderella, Mary Poppins & Mamma Mia (TUTS), Mother of the Maid (Pacific Theatre) and Coriolanus (Bard on the Beach). Susan is a Jessie Award winner and graduate of Studio 58.
MISHELLE CUTTLER – SOUND DESIGN – is a composer, sound designer and musician based in Vancouver. Some favourite past projects include: Shakespeare in Love, Lysistrata (Bard on the Beach), The Candidate, The Party (Citadel), The Matchmaker, Sweat (Arts Club), Hir, The Events (Pi), Titus Bouffonius, Penelope (Rumble), and Stationary (Delinquent). Next up: A Christmas Carol (Citadel), Skyborn (Savage Society), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Bard). She is a multiple Jessie Award winner and a member of the Associated Designers of Canada.
