Thurs Oct 10: featuring Tocani Music’s Cuando el Tecolote Danza
A multidisciplinary performance inspired by mythology and social Latin-American contexts.

Cuando el Tecolote Danza speaks about the symbolism of the owl and its connection with the underworld according to the ancient cultures of Mesoamerica. Through music, dance and costume, Tocani narrates a story based on the owl as a messenger, who announces the death of a farmer, and develops an interplay between death and the owl itself. The second part of the piece depicts the transition to a contemporary environment. The sounds of a chaotic urban landscape are interwoven with pre-hispanic rhythms, and the presence of vocalizations and sounds, convey a sense of the Mexican concrete jungle.

Join us at our final Aluna Cabaret of CAMINOS 2019 and support of the work of RAICES. Based in South Texas, RAICES provides legal services for people who are migrating, in detention, or find themselves separated from their families. All donations collected during the evening will go directly to helping people survive a broken system. Bring cash to donate in person, or contact us to donate privately via podcast@alunatheatre.ca
