Theatre

MEMORIAS explores physical theatre based on a series of tableaux accompanied by original live music. Lines in Spanish, Portuguese and Kichwa [Andean language] will be heard throughout the performance.

The piece represents experiences and memories in the context of the cycle of life and death. Human rituals are expressed through the body, exploring its language and the possibilities of communication.

“I can’t think of having a CAMINOS without the presence of Grupo Teatro Libre, a community group that has been creating a theatre space for newcomers and performers from Latin America and beyond for over fifteen years. Their work is centered around collective creation and it brings to the table the many cultural roots and cultural traditions of its members. They create beautiful images and work with live music. As an immigrant, I have always had a difficulty with this “box” definition of community theatre. For newcomers, spaces such as this, are usually the ONLY places where they can continue to work as artists. They are vital to our city.” – Beatriz Pizano

About the artist

Grupo Teatro Libre is a grassroots, intergenerational, diverse and inclusive group. It was founded in 2008 in Toronto with the mission of doing theatre in Spanish and Portuguese in a collective and participatory manner, representing original creations or Latin American playwrights in their original language, and always promoting solidarity and respect for human rights.
