In this bold re-imagining of the world of Jean Genet’s The Maids, Claire and Solange are maids existing in a precarious and miserable room. When they suppose they might become actresses, they rehearse Genet to hilarious effect. But everything changes in time: as the maids’ relationship shifts from violence to tenderness, from boisterous energy to eerie silence, they arrive at a transformation of the everyday into ritual. Enclosed in an intimate performance space, the performers and audience coexist in an evocative and sensory environment that makes this tour de force production a collective, tangible experience.

About the artist

Since coming together in 2007, the creators of Vaca 35 have toured internationally with eight original productions. Through their works, workshops and community engagements, the company aims to offer an alternative theater that challenges the stereotypes prevalent within the current Mexican theatre landscape.
