In this two-day workshop by one of Mexico’s most prominent avant-garde directors, participants will engage with Teatro Línea de Sombra’s artistic principles, concepts, and practices, with a particular focus on experiences that allow reflection and encourage new ways of approaching objects. Participants will explore the processes that transform objects into artistic matter while considering their ethical and political implications. The starting point for this workshop is the notion of live objects, which refers to the conceptual, relational, affective or symbolic dimensions of materiality. Objects are containers of information and as such they have a surplus of meaning that can displace their original function. By becoming clues, traces or evidence, objects acquire a different kind of density and become an intensely live matter that emits signals and radiates new meanings. Participants will have an opportunity to actively address these processes of transformation and imagine new modes of recasting objects in artistic spaces.
