Join a unique theatrical experiment in which policy documents imagine new possibilities for transborder exchange in the Americas.
“I’d like to think that by providing a platform for meaningful policy change, we are making a proposition about what theater can be.” – Richard Maxwell, New York City Players
Documents Perform | Documentos Actúan gives the stage to an online cast of artists, activists, and community leaders who want to ratify meaningful policy between regions in the Americas.
Joining from localities throughout the Americas, the cast will collectively “hack” in real time the existing initiatives laid out in Canada’s “Joint Declaration on the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity” to make it speak to the need for a blueprint that supports sustained artistic co-creation and collaboration in the Americas.
Through deletion, rewriting, and reassessment, the online cast will unveil what the words otherwise cover over about the impacts and effects of the policy’s existing terms of engagement and, in the process, allow new possibilities for transborder artistic exchange to emerge.
At the conclusion of the performance, the new policy will be read aloud in English and Spanish, ratified, and sent to the appropriate federal ministers, with the spectators as witness.

“The most affected by these policies should play an integral role in changing them, from wherever they are in the Americas.”
