The Cunning Linguist

The Cunning Linguist portrays a deeply personal and honest account of a Queer woman struggling with her identity. Monica, a young newcomer to Canada finds the freedom to come out as a Queer woman in her new home, but continues to hide her truth in her homeland, Mexico. She experiences freedom and shame all at once, navigating the pressures of the patriarchal culture she comes from. The fear of losing the love of her parents and family keeps her from being her true self. It’s a story about her journey of reconciling organized religion with her beliefs and true faith told through incredible humor, compassion, and heart wrenching moments.

We are so excited to continue supporting Monica Garrido Huerta’s The Cunning Linguist. Her piece was a part of the Caminos 2017 Festival and was winner of the 2016 Queer Acts Audience Award.
